Privacy Policy
Last updated September 9, 2026. LostPet Inc. · LostPet.com and PetTrader.com
LostPet.com takes your privacy seriously. Account pages use a password. Public pages use HTTPS.
1. How we treat your privacy
We do not run banner ads, pop-ups, or pop-unders. We do not sell your information to third parties for marketing. We do not run cross-marketing or link-referral programs that hand your data to other sites. We do not send you junk marketing mail.
Keep your password private. Log out when you are done, especially on a shared computer.
We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If we learn a post or account is from a child under 13, we will remove it.
Other sites we link to have their own policies. Read those separately.
2. Data we collect
- Account: name, email, phone, zip, state, address if you enter it, and a password hash
- Pet records: photos, description, sex, spay/neuter, location, status (pre-need, lost, recovered)
- Marketplace listings and photos
- Messages you send us
- Server logs: IP address, page URL, time — used to run and protect the site
We do not store credit card numbers on this server. If payments are added later, card data will go through a payment processor over SSL.
Do not put a home address or phone number in a public listing if you want that kept private. Public lost/found and marketplace posts can be seen by anyone and may be copied by search engines.
3. How we use it
- To run your account and let you edit pets and listings
- To match a found pet to a registered pet
- To send service mail (when email is connected): confirmations, possible matches, listing expiry
- To stop abuse, spam, and fake photos
4. What we store
Posts and photos live in our database. Removed items may remain in backups for a time. Logs may be kept to diagnose problems. We work to keep the server locked down. No site can promise perfect security.
5. When we may share information
We may disclose information if required by law, or if we believe in good faith it is needed to answer a subpoena or court order, enforce the Terms of Use, respond to a claim that a post violates someone else’s rights, or protect LostPet, its users, or the public.
A finder and an owner may need limited contact so a pet can go home. We do not publish your full street address on public search results.
6. International users
Data is stored on servers in the United States. If you use the site from another country, you agree to that transfer.
7. Changes
If we change how we use personal information in a material way, we will post a notice on the site.
